Changes Effective Immediately; Updated Labor Law Materials Recommended
On July 22, 2008, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) introduced new language to the “Race, Color, Religion, Sex, National Origin” section of the EEO poster.
The EEOC is the government agency responsible for administering the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other individual employment rights – perhaps the most well known of all federal labor law.
The EEOC’s clarification states:
“Religious discrimination includes failing to reasonably accommodate an employee’s religious practices where the accommodation does not impose undue hardship.”
The change is effective immediately, and GovDocs recommends that all U.S. employers update their labor law materials to display the EEOC’s updated language.
